Gross national product does not include the beauty of our poetry or the strength of our marriages, the intelligence of our public debate or the integrity of our public officials.
It measures neither our wit nor our courage, neither our wisdom nor our learning, neither our compassion nor our devotion to our country, it measures everything in short, except that which makes life worthwhile.

What will human do in the post 2nd machine revolution?

In Luke 10:27, our Lord said “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind,
It is interesting that we are commanded to love with 3 of the faculty that constitute us as human: physical (strength), mental (mind), emotion (heart) and spiritual (soul).

As I reflect on the machine revolutions, steam engine had led the 1st machine revolution that brought us the Industrial Age. Now we are in the middle on the 2nd machine revolution lead by computer ushering the Information Age. As the machine took away many jobs involving physical labor during the 1st revolution, right now we are seeing how jobs that require mental labor (e.g., reading/diagnose the result of a medical x-ray) are slowly taken over by computer.
I guess the futures of a “safe jobs” are those that involved human emotion and spirituality such as counselor, therapist and clergy. It is my believe that our need are not only physical (food) and mental (knowledge), but also an innate desire to be connected with other human, not machine, on an emotional level and to our Creator on a spiritual level.

Technology is a gift of God. After the gift of life it is perhaps the greatest of God’s gifts. It is the mother of civilizations, of arts and of sciences.
